SATS AND PRIME TUITION OFFER FREE SATS LESSONS FOR YEAR-6

All Year 6 students must sit for SATs examinations at the end of Year-6. The examinations are usually conducted in the second week of May every year.

If you're the parent or career of a child in primary school, you'll have heard of SATs, from another parent or during parents’ evening with teachers. 

So, what are SATs in Year 6?

SATs (Standard Assessment Tests) are designed to evaluate your child’s progress throughout years 3-6 and to compare how your child achieves against other children of their age. For example, Ofsted look at SATs results. SATs exams are set and marked outside the school.

Who takes SATs?

Children in English schools take SATs in year 2 and in year 6.

In year 2, Children are being tested in Maths and English (reading and spelling, punctuation and grammar).

At Prime Tuition we prepare children thoroughly we this assessment and offer them Extra Free Lessons during Easter Holidays before their exams in May to Boost their performance in SATs.

In year 6, the SATs is a formal exam – These exams are taken in school settings within a time limit. There are tests in math and English.

What Do We Teach in Our SATs Classes?

Year 6 SATs Lessons: Maths

Children sit three papers in Maths:

Paper 1: arithmetic, 30 minutes

Papers 2 and 3: reasoning, 40 minutes per paper

At Prime we focus on both kind of contents during our lessons and do practise papers in Free SATs Lessons from March till May Every Year.

1. The arithmetic paper tests your child’s understanding of number along with mental and written calculation skills. Your child will need to know a range of number facts (such as their times tables). They're also tested on their knowledge of written methods of calculations (such as short division). The students will also be taught a wide range of mental calculation skills during SATs preparation.

2. Papers two and three are reasoning tests. Your child will need to apply their mathematical knowledge to solve problems.

This means buying things in a shop, area & perimeter for tiling a floor, answer to a calculation, drawing a shape or completing a table or chart. These test papers cover a broader area of maths, including geometry and statistics, as well as number knowledge and arithmetic.

 

Year 6 SATs Lessons: English

There are two tests for English :

A reading paper- Duration 1 hour, and

A Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling (SPaG) paper.

The SPaG paper has two parts: a spelling paper and a grammar paper- 45 minutes

There's no English writing test - teachers in school will assess your child's writing.

Reading Paper

The reading test is a single paper which usually have three different texts to read. These will be a mixture of fiction and non-fiction writing, including poetry.

1. Child will answer questions which assess their comprehension and interpretation skills. they'll have to use a mixture of evidence from the text and their own reasoning skills.

2. The questions range from multiple choice answers to longer, written responses.

SPaG Paper

This paper and preparation includes,

1. Use of punctuation (such as inverted commas for direct speech) and knowledge of the language used in context. Pronouns (such as which, who, that) and conjunctions (but, and, because).

2. The questions in the SPaG paper could be multiple-choice, joining boxes, writing in a sentence or writing a short explanation.

3. For the spelling test, child will need to spell twenty words by inserting them into a sentence in their answer booklets.

We will work on reading and grammar skills during Lessons. The students will learn to analyse the text and answer the questions quickly and correctly and able to annotate them relative fast.

What Are Some Other Benefits We Offer?

We will guide the students individually through each lesson in small groups. We will explain all SATS contents topics, correct homework, conduct tests, mark their work, and resolve their queries during the session. Therefore, the students can assess their performance after completing each course.

Assessment Tests

At Prime Tuition, we assess each student's performance after completing each paper content. In addition, we will be conducting mock examinations during the academic year to examine their progress and outcome. It will highlight the students' strengths and weaknesses.
